About
"Color! What a deep and mysterious language, the language of dreams."
-Paul Gauguin
This workshop is all about letting go, experimenting, and finding our way through abstract colors and shapes.Â
Through various exercises in painting and drawing shapes, we will warm up, meditate with shapes and lines, discuss layering one color and different colors, create our own perimeters, and play with form. With simple concepts and basic shapes we can soothe the nervous system, exercise the brain, and bring pops of our favorite colors to share with others or place in our homes.
Suggested materials
- Watercolors are the preferred medium for this class, as we will be building and layering semi-transparent shapes on top of each other, but feel free to improvise.
- Scratch paper/notebook and pen/pencil for warmups.
- Watercolor paper. Suggested sizes: 8 x 10, 9 x 12, or 6 x 8 is ideal. Your preference of cold or hot press, or both! (If you don't have "watercolor" go for thick drawing paper if you have that.)
- At least three different watercolor colors you love. You should enjoy the pairing of all three colors. At least two should be bright, vibrant, deep, or dark.
- Recommended brushes (if you don't have these, just bring what you have!) Â Â Â Â
- A flat, shader, and/or angle brush around size 10 or 3/8" (give or take a size)
- A round, oval wash, and/or sword brush around size 10 or 1/2" or bigger.
- Small round brush, preferably size 0 or 2
- Optional: big wash brushes.
Â
- Water + mixing palette
- Scratch paper for testing colors/cleaning brush.
- Fine point pens similar to a Pigma Micron or Staedtler (bring a ballpoint, gel, or fine tipped sharpie if you don't have those)
- Optional: Washi or masking tape
