Online Workshop

Songwriting is a unique style of writing that sets it apart from other forms of written expression with three key aspects: lyrics, melody and chords, and lyric writing is one of the most important aspects of writing songs. Where do you start? How do you keep going when you're stuck or looking for inspiration?

Maybe you write songs but don't play an instrument, or you love to write and want to explore songwriting. For this introductory workshop, Seattle musician, singer-songwriter Sheryl Wiser will take us through the basics and together, we'll explore the craft, play with language - inspirations, form, rhythm and rhyme. Even if you don't play an instrument or sing a note it doesn't matter. The art of songwriting is a beautiful way of observing and chronicling the world. It's a certain kind of shorthand for what the master songwriter Dave Alvin calls "three chords and the truth."
